Khaled Makhlouf
Khaled Makhlouf brings with him almost 40 years of banking experience in 4 countries, namely UAE, Egypt, KSA and Bahrain. His core experience is in Risk management, Corporate banking, Islamic Banking, Financial Institutions, Syndications, Investment Banking and Financial Restructuring & Recovery.
Prior to joining IDB as Advisor to the Chairman in September 2022, he was the Risk Manager/Senior Credit Officer of the Wholesale Banking for Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Iraq at Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Head Office, Abu Dhabi between June 2013 and December 2021. He was also in charge of the Ship Finance Risk Management and covered few other Specialized Industries such as Contracting, Ship Finance and Commercial Real Estate.
The key milestones in his career were at Ahli United Bank, Head Office, Bahrain when he took charge of the Group Credit Risk function as Group Chief Credit Officer between 2007 and 2010; at ABN AMRO Bank between 1999 and 2007 as the Chief Risk Officer for UAE & the Middle East during the last 3 years (2004 and 2007). During his career, he spent 3 years in Saudi Arabia with Saudi Fransi Bank and Saudi Hollandi Bank, 10 years with Arab Bank in Egypt and one year as Chief General manager with Arab Investment bank.
Khaled is French educated, as such, he is trilingual and graduated in 1983 from Faculty of Economics and Political Sciences, Cairo University, Grade “Excellent”. In 1993, he obtained his Master degree in Economics with Grade “Very Good” and in his thesis, he analyzed the insolvency of private companies established under the Investment Law in Egypt, its impact on the economy and the lenders along with the proposed solutions to restructure and re-operate these companies.
